Surrendering to love
—an imprisonment of joy!
(Villanova Pennsylvania: June, 2016)
Do you have to do something
you loathe or then hate
To finance the thing
that you love
Do you plod to a tune
out of step and off key
To dance freely with what
comes from above
Do the moments you steal
and those stolen from you
Stand opposed or conjoined
at the hip
Are those times rare and precious
to freely aspire
Worth a life lived divided
—and split
(Train from White River Junction: March, 2016)
We do no favors
labeling genius
We do no favors
channeling the light
We do no favors
defining perfection
We do no favors
—questioning delight
(Villanova Pennsylvania: June, 2016)
Hope trumped last
a prisoner of death
A final capitulation
—devil’s ransom beset
(Villanova Pennsylvania: June, 2016)
My constant companions…
words reel and recast
Like a lady in waiting,
they clear every path
Extending forever,
to store what I feel
My thoughts they intrude,
my meanings revealed
My past they’ve forgiven,
my future ignored
They rest in my prayers,
hopes and wishes restored
I know at the end,
but one thing will remain
A last word to take with me
—to begin once again
(Villanova Pennsylvania: July, 2018)
The world pushes left
the world pushes right
The middle ground deadly
a trappers delight
Pigeons take refuge
as hawks rule the skies
Hunting all charlatans
—truth in their eyes
(Villanova Pennsylvania: July, 2018)
Too old to be your Brother,
too young to be your Dad
These private moments that we share
our limbo iron clad
You wrap your eyes around me,
I’m spellbound in your gaze
The years between us melt away
and drift off in the haze
Too old to be your lover
yet young with thoughts aglow
Your breath like silk, your touch on fire
—my heart not free to go
(Villanova Pennsylvania: July, 2018)
Is there a difference between
judgment and observation
Is there a difference between
opinion and introspection
Is there a difference between
atonement and damnation
Is the difference only in the words
—or is it something more
(Villanova Pennsylvania: July, 2018)
Love yourself first
before someone else will
Feelings vested, spirit rhymed
attraction distilled
Love yourself first
before someone else will
Your beauty self-reflected
—another’s heart to fill
(Villanova Pennsylvania: July, 2018)
Each new Poem a gift
as yet unwrapped
Its secrets lay hidden,
its flow untapped
Waiting for the author
to feel the pain
To seal the memory
—to wear the stain
(Villanova Pennsylvania: July, 2018)
