The Winds Of Today

For Papa

That monster inside us

devouring the past

Our memories hunted

most recent to last

No mercy is shown us

as darkness creeps in

Today and tomorrow

—lost into the wind

(Tribute To Hemingway: January, 2024)

Lakota Buffalo Prayer

Shooting

today

Killing

tomorrow

Targeted

fortune

Lost

—to the wind

(The New Room: January, 2024)

Our Well Never Dry

We share the same silence

we think the same thoughts

We have the same daydreams

not rented or bought

We live in the spaces

of a lost inbetween

And wander through moments

that time hasn’t seen

We care for each other

we live for today

We treasure the quiet

of nothing to say

We give without taking

our well never dry

And smile ever meeting

—never saying goodbye

(The New Room: January, 2024)

A Melody Silenced

Ignored

by my children

Especially

my daughter

Taken

for granted

Taking

up space

Living

unnoticed

My pain

front and center

Checking

off boxes

That never

erase

Knowing

she loves me

More

now than ever

My face

a reminder

Of greatness

long past

My voice

the last vestige

Of songs

sung together

A melody

silenced

When first

—became last
