Blues Poem #17

A lotta times

it ain’t good

and it ain’t bad

— it’s what it is

Tungsten Lights

Commercial success

the lie of tomorrow

Wrapped in the death

— of today

Inception

Transmuting the past

denying the future

Reliving the moment

— time after time

Shiloh

Shooting my classmate’s brother

(that war within a war)

I sat next to him at The Point

still targeting him sure

More than blood will flow this day

memory also dies

As honor sells its soul in vain

— each headstone marks the lie

(Maryville Tennessee: March, 1999)

Yesterday’s Oath

Are you willing to shoulder

the burden that was left

by those no longer heard

To write those things

they never wrote

inspired by their every word

To take that next step

they never took

to reach beyond their grasp

Clearing the way for those unborn

to pick up the mantle

— embracing the past

The Trojan Horse

Egos

not armies

destroy the Crown

Arrogance

reletting

the blood

The Emperor

naked

upon its back

Odysseus

in

— from the wood

Innominatus

Stars reflect

the light inside you

Their galaxy

our soul’s domain

New constellations

wait unchristened

To burn inside

— each heart to name

The Brass Ring

Embrace

the moment

forever alive

Hell

freezing over

— damnation proscribed

Methinks Thou Dost …

Sea change

 written

— on the face of denial

Weeding The Garden

Callous rows gone fallow

human touch embraced

Hate uprooted — Love replanted

tilled in Heaven’s grace
