Nothing
can be its own explanation
Nothing
can leave itself
Nothing
can give dimension to time
Nothing
unsaid is spelt
Nothing
is nothing till something becomes
Nothing
a word unatoned
Nothing
that last page of unwritten rhyme
Nothing
—a temptress unknown
(Dreamsleep: January, 2023)
Music has a special taste
feelings lost in sound
Touching heard across the room
vision by the pound
References left unto themselves
choir boys in tune
Trading what they never had
tribute to the loon
One last chance to make the grade
masks come flying off
Darwin leaving Born in chains
climbing through the moss
Menageries have come and gone
kaleidoscopes diffused
Nomenclature chameleons
—confounded and bemused
(The New Room: January, 2023)
Life was born in the desert
but death came out of the sea
walking on all fours, breathing the air
—killing that never to be
(Dreamsleep: January, 2023)
Leonard Cohen…
an unfinished poem
blowing in the wind
forever reminding
—to start again
(The Main Point: January, 1972)
Bigger in my memory
smaller in my inclination
Regret a distant calling card
admonishing my name
Vacant in my recollection
bedded in my hopefulness
Joy a future invitation
—Heaven to proclaim
(Christmas Wishing: First Book Of Prayers- December, 2022)
Smaller in the rearview mirror
the past retreats from view
Perspective changing rearranging
the old supplanted new
Fading in a dying focus
dust beyond the wind
Blowing wild beyond our memory
—fates forgotten hymn
(Dreamsleep: December, 2022)
You can’t catch up to history
its ship no longer sails
Each chapter prisoned by the wind
times trilogy airmailed
To search within your destiny
the moments turn to gold
Where bookends fall and freedom reigns
—beyond the past retold
(Dreamsleep: December, 2022)
Where does laughter go
when the smiles are gone
Where does music go
when stripped of its song
Where does credence go
when truth suicides
Where do voices go
—when breath is denied
(Dreamsleep: December, 2022)
Before the analysis
before the dissection
First came the reading
—the deepest of cuts
(Dreamsleep: December, 2022)
The magic of words
each door of perception
The entrance and exit
—buried within
(Dreamsleep: December, 2022)
